New York Times Analyst, Subscriber Revenue Analytics in New York, New York

Job Description

We are seeking a Data Analyst to join our growing Data & Insights group who will partner with Marketing, Operations, and Finance teams in support of the Times’ digital and home delivery subscriber businesses. The Analyst will produce reporting and analyses to monitor subscriber behavior, optimize retention tactics, and classify and understand revenue.

The successful candidate will be distinguished more by strong technical and analytical ability, a quick intuition, and a willingness to get involved than by any specific domain knowledge or experience. The candidate should be comfortable expressing complex concepts in writing, speech, code, or with visuals, and should be interested in becoming an expert in the use of SQL.

Responsibilities

  • Create reporting solutions to monitor outcomes at key moments in the subscriber lifecycle e.g., price/product changes, changes to subscriber benefits, etc.

  • Enable marketers to identify effective tactics for increasing retention and per-customer revenue through test design, implementation, and analysis

  • Produce analyses in partnership with Marketing and Finance to enable deep understanding of reported revenue

  • Champion the data needs of non-technical partners by translating business needs into technical requirements and collaborating with engineers to realize solutions

  • Promote data literacy and enable self-service segmentation, reporting, and analytics by training cross-functional partners in the use of data tools

  • Document bugs for and suggest improvements to data capabilities and products

  • Proactively collaborate with teammates to promote adoption of best practices and use of standardized data definitions by contributing to shared documentation resources, being active on Slack, and participating in team knowledge-sharing exercises

Requirements

  • 1-3 years work experience in data analytics; experience supporting a B2C business a plus

  • 1+ years work experience manipulating data using code is required. Strong analytic SQL skills strongly preferred, equivalent skill in R or Python Pandas is acceptable

  • Familiarity with data exploration / data visualization tools like Tableau, Chartio, etc.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills; technical writing experience a plus

  • Degree or coursework in an analytical field such as economics, mathematics, or computer science preferred
