Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly talented and motivated ITS Practice Lead Engineer for immediate employment in our New York City office. The successful candidate will lead and grow our local ITS program for roadways, transit, and airport projects in Metropolitan New York and work closely with our national and regional ITS practice leaders. This individual must be able to demonstrate technical leadership, and an established career in the transportation engineering field with focused experience in ITS and traffic engineering. Candidates must have a solid understanding and experience of various aspects of traffic and ITS methodologies and procedures. This individual will collaborate with ITS and traffic leaders for overseeing complex ITS design projects, including but not limited to; preparation of ITS Systems Engineering and Concept of Operation for computerized traffic control devices, all electronic tolling facilities, CV/AV/CEAV/V2I design and deployment. The successful candidate(s) will work as part of a dynamic team on the delivery of projects, helping to develop and meet financial goals, and contribute to business development activities that support the overall growth of the company.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Function as the local lead manager for ITS planning and design projects;

  • Provide technical analysis for a wide range of transportation infrastructure projects;

  • Develop scope and fee estimates for various ITS projects/task orders;

  • Interface with staff from other disciplines (civil, structural, planning, transit & rail, geotechnical, buildings, power, etc.) to support a diverse range of projects;

  • Perform a range of marketing and business development activities, including gathering client intelligence, leading pursuits and proposals, expanding work assignments, and interfacing through professional organizations;

  • Provide technical assistance and quality control oversight on ITS projects; and,

  • Understands trends and best practices in the transportation industry.

Job Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Experience in ITS planning and design studies, development of Concept of Operations, ITS communication technologies and wireless communication integration, and emerging ITS technologies;

  • Experience with traffic engineering and ITS software;

  • Thorough understanding of traffic and ITS guidelines / procedures / plan preparation;

  • Experience working with municipalities, DOT's and approving agencies;

  • Ability to scope / estimate complex traffic and ITS projects;

  • Track and manage task budgets and schedules;

  • Demonstrate leadership skills and communication skills requiring client interaction; and,

  • Ability to work with various multi-disciplined teams is essential to this role.

Experience and Education Required:

  • B.S. degree in Civil/Traffic/Electrical Engineering (M.S. degree desirable);

  • 10 plus years of experience in traffic systems operation and ITS projects;

  • PE license and PTOE certification (desirable);

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and,

  • A strong background in ITS, traffic engineering and signal design.
